<p>Here&#8217;s your action plan.  Make a commitment to do at LEAST EIGHT of these things.  This is about massive action.  Doing just one or two of these may not be enough.</p>
<p>The bitter truth that no one ever tells you about marketing is that everything doesn’t always work every time.  So if you want to stay busy, you MUST take action with several items.</p>
<ul>
<li>First and most importantly, mail a postcard or letter to EVERY SINGLE ONE of your current clients at the beginning of January and beginning of February.  <strong>Include a killer offer</strong>.</li>
<li>Mail a postcard to your clients who haven&#8217;t used your service in the past year.  Remind them that they haven&#8217;t had cleaning in over a year.  Include a killer offer.</li>
<li>Run a Google <strong>Adwords pay-per-click</strong> campaign targeting your city with the main keywords for your service.</li>
<li>Send an email newsletter to your prospects and clients with a special winter only offer.</li>
<li>Set up a Google Remarketing campaign and get in front of prospects after they have seen your first message.</li>
<li>Create a blog or post to your current blog.  <strong>Post tips to help homeowners</strong> care for the carpet, tile, rugs, and other services you offer.</li>
<li>Send a letter to 25 doctor, lawyer, or offices each week.  Make sure you follow up with a phone call or at least one additional mailing.</li>
<li>Put <strong>SEO strategies</strong> in place to rank higher in the search engines FREE.</li>
<li>Post to Facebook, giving your Facebook subscribers a special winter offer.</li>
<li>Create one new Social Media profile each week</li>
<li>Create a <strong>mobile website</strong> so mobile users see your site.</li>
<li>Send a letter to <strong>25 Realtors, Interior Designers, or Flooring Retailers</strong> each week letting them know of your referral program.  Go <strong>visit their office</strong> after the mailing and bring them goodies.</li>
<li>Send a letter to <strong>25 maid services, chimney sweeps, air duct cleaners</strong>, or other home service businesses in your area.  Let them know of your referral program.  Go visit them after the mailing (and yes, bring them goodies).</li>
<li>Put <strong>500 flyers</strong> on doorknobs of high-end homes each week.  Make sure your offer is good enough to get them to call.</li>
<li>Run an advertorial ad in the newspaper.  Mention how winter is normally slow so you&#8217;re giving incredible specials on winter services like rug cleaning, tile cleaning, etc.</li>
<li>Offer a <strong>FREE 60 or even 90 day &#8220;touch up cleaning&#8221;</strong> to help take the client&#8217;s risk away from the carpet getting dirty too soon.  Mention this on the phone and in ads.</li>
<li>At the end of each job, give the client a card with a special offer to get <strong>25% off any additional service</strong> that is booked within the next 30 days.</li>
<li>If you ran an ad in the past year that was successful, RUN IT AGAIN!</li>
</ul>
<h2>Do this if you&#8217;re in an area with VERY cold weather:</h2>
<ul>
<li>Run a Google Adwords pay-per-click campaign.  If you&#8217;re in an area where the weather is cold, target keywords for <strong>&#8220;water damage&#8221; and &#8220;frozen pipes.&#8221;</strong></li>
<li>Create a WordPress blog or post to your current blog.  Post about freezing weather and the effects of frozen pipes.  Gives tips to avoid water damage problems.</li>
<li>In your email newsletters and snail mail postcards to clients, let them <strong>know of the dangers of freezing pipes</strong> and how you can help if pipes break.</li>
<li>Send <strong>25 letters to plumbers each week</strong> letting them know that you dry out homes that have flooded from frozen pipes.  Offer an incentive to refer you.  Call and visit the plumber offices.  Bring them a box of donuts or chocolates.</li>
</ul>

<p>But be aware&#8230;the winter season is coming.  You need to already be prepared when it hits.</p>

<p>And this year I&#8217;m adding some new tweaks to the winter &#8220;Times are tough&#8221; package.  The thing is, times don&#8217;t have to be tough.  You just gotta know what to offer your prospects and clients to put a fire under them to get them to pick up the phone and call.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not quite as easy to get cleaning jobs in the winter.  But it can be done.  You just need the right hot buttons to hit your prospect with.  That&#8217;s all.</p>
<p>What about offering services that can be done with the front door closed?  Hardwood floors, ceramic tile, upholstery, and area rug cleaning are great.  Even better, pick up the area rugs and clean them at your location.  And the key is, the offer has to be something they can&#8217;t refuse.</p>

<p>Of course, the topic of &#8220;Green&#8221; cleaning has been hot for years.  California has been environmentally friendly for decades.  Or at least they have tried to be that way.</p>
<p>But it seems some areas of the country aren&#8217;t really getting it until now.</p>

<p>Obviously, marketing yourself as a green cleaner can get you into homes who care about being responsible.  But we want to go even further than just that.  Let&#8217;s take green cleaning to a new level.</p>
<p>We only have one body and one earth.  We need to take care of it in the most responsible way possible.</p>

<p>In the distance, lightning cracked the horizon. Our boat drifted further into the middle of Pensacola&#8217;s grand bay.</p>
<p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s try it one more time,&#8221; I said, knowing this time wouldn&#8217;t deliver a different outcome than last. What else is keeping this boat from starting?</p>
<p>Good grief. My boat is only exactly one year old and there shouldn&#8217;t be any problems with it already.</p>
<p>One year? Oh no! My anniversary date was last week. That means my boat no longer carries Sea Tow warranty. I meant to call them.</p>
<p><strong>Why didn&#8217;t I remember?</strong></p>
<p>The fact of the matter is, I would have called Sea Tow had I remembered. But they didn&#8217;t send me a reminder to prompt me to renew. Just a simple postcard would have done it. Or even an email.</p>
<p>But there I sat, in the middle of the bay in a boat that won&#8217;t crank.</p>
<p>Sea tow can be quite costly-easily hundreds of dollars. And the towing process is slow. To get towed, we&#8217;d be looking at getting the boat back to the dock in three hours if we were lucky (it was already 9pm). So the thought of having my boat towed was gut wrenching.</p>
<p>In the end, the service rep for the BoatUS towing service walked me through re-setting my power supply. It was as easy as hitting a button-I just had to know which button to hit.</p>
<p>My hero for today is the BoatUS technician who saved me. You better believe I&#8217;ll be getting a membership right away.</p>
<p><strong>What does this mean for your cleaning business?</strong></p>
<p>Send your clients <strong>reminder cards</strong> or even <strong>emails</strong>. Let them know a year has gone by since their last cleaning. Believe it or not, some clients REALLY care about constantly maintaining their flooring.</p>
<p>Create a <strong>continuity plan </strong>that requires them to clean regularly. <strong>Reward them</strong> for cleanings within a 6 or 12 month time period. Set up a frequent flyer type membership program (more on this later). You&#8217;d be surprised at how many would jump on the offer.</p>
<p><strong>Educate</strong> and remind your clients. They&#8217;ll love you for it.</p>
