New Newsletter Idea
By Hitman | May 16, 2009
You might want to take note of this…
The US postal service is no longer allowing self mailers to be bulk mailed without tabs as of May 11, 2009 (first class mail is still okay but you gotta pay $.44 a pop versus about $.24 for bulk mail).
This actually poses a bit of a problem.
As many of you know, I used to recommend mailing self mailed newsletters. It’s simply an 8 ½ x 11 inch page that is tri-folded. If you fold it where the page opens at the top, the postal service did NOT require tabbing. But now they do.
Tabs make your newsletter more difficult to open. Plus, they add cost to the preparation. So I always recommend you avoid using them.
So now I decided to one-up the old newsletter style and do something a little different.
Here’s what I’m doing…
Instead of the old, tri-fold self mailers, I’m starting to send oversized postcard newsletters. That’s right. They’ll be full color. They have articles, pictures, offers, and everything my old newsletters had.
And what’s more, these newsletters will include a spin of personality. Our clients will know our company brand. Plus they’ll personally be drawn closer to our company.
I highly recommend you mail to your current clients and high-end neighborhoods in which you want to be top-of-mind.
Mail to these people every month. A newsletter postcard makes this simple and cost effective.
Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

Here’s a comment I received from one of my members…
“John, do you think that postcards will be as effective? As I recall, postcards only get around 3 seconds of someones attention before they chuck it…I would think that a 8 x 11 newsletter will give them something to read and keep their interest…?”
My answer…
I think they have HUGE potential. The thing is, these won’t be just regular postcards. They’ll be oversized postcards in a newsletter format.
They’ll include articles, offers, stories, and stuff that isn’t normally on a normal postcard.
They’ll be different. That’s what we’re looking for. Standing out from the competition is always what we’re looking for.
